    Introduction

    The team behind FELL Marine thank you for engaging in a new and innovative way of being safe while boating. Our mission is to enable all boaters to enjoy the seas, and for them to be as free as possible. We call it Safe To Be Free.

    We made this product with the expectation that our customers wanted the free and energizing feeling while spending time on the sea, whether it is high seas or low seas, rainy or sunny. We wanted to enhance the boating experience by creating a product providing absolute safety and no worries – just be free and enjoy.

    Still after several decades with a corded solution as the only alternative for the engine kill switch on motorboats, no one seems to have developed a system that enables one to be free and safe while driving a motor boat – as it should be.

    Using state of the art wireless technology, we have developed the effortless and easy to use WiMEA (Wireless Marine Electronics Algorithm) by FELL of Norway.     Overview

    xHUB xFOB

     

    Press and Hold to Pair
    Pair any MOB+ xFOB to any MOB+ xHUB. Your xHUB remembers the last 20 paired xFOBs. Only one xFOB can be actively connected to the xHUB when in operation, but up to 20 xFOB’s can be paired and reside in the memory of the same xHUB. This enables multiple drivers of the same boat to have their own xFOB unit. If one xFOB unit is connected and another attempts to connect a paired unit, this will not affect the system as it only communicates with the unique ID of the connected unit.

    One click – Connect / Disconnect System
    After your xFOB and xHUB are paired for the first time, click your xFOB once when entering the boat to start driving. You are now free to move around safely. When disembarking the boat – click the xFOB once more to disconnect.

    Man Over Board (MOB) situation and Direct Restart System
    FELL Marine WiMEA® Protocol automatically triggers MOB Mode (Man Overboard Mode) when the xFOB goes into the water or travels out of range from the connected xHUB. 6 seconds after stopping the engine the Override Mode is engaged and automatically switches the signal relay to the engine back on. This allows any passengers on board to quickly restart the engine and pick up the missing driver in the water, without the need to interact with the xHUB.

    Installation tips

    • Find installation instructions for your engine on www.fellmarine.com/support
    • Use a standard 2-1/16” (52mm) hole saw for the xHUB mounting
    • Use the included heat shrinkable splices to ensure all wiring connections are waterproof.
    • For multiple engines use the engine manufacturers provided solution, this may vary across different engine brands. See www.fellmarine.com/support for information about your engine brand.

    Pairing

    After proper installation, pair the xFOB and the xHUB, as described below:

    NOTE: The xHUB remembers the 20 last paired xFOBs. Pairing saves the ID of xFOBs in the memory of the xHUB. Pairing is only done the first time you use an xFOB with an xHUB. Remember, only one xFOB can be connected to an xHUB at the time acting as a kill switch. See the section “2.2 Connect”
    Press and hold the button on your xHUB.
    Release the button when the xHUB starts flashing blue and gives a sound signal indicating Pairing Mode.

    Immediately after releasing the button on the xHUB, press and hold the button on your xFOB. Keep the xFOB within 1 meter range from the xHUB.
    The xHUB will give a sound signal and the light will flash green to indicate that the units was paired successfully. You can now release the button on your xFOB.

    Connecting

    After successful pairing, connect the xFOB to the xHUB as shown below:

    Click the button on your xFOB to connect.
    The xHUB will give a sound signal and the light will flash green to indicate a successful connection.
    Start You can now start your engine.
    Every 5 seconds the xHUB will flash green to indicate an active connection.
    NOTE: The green light and battery indication light will automatically turn off after 5 minutes.
    NOTE: Do not detach the xFOB from your body and place it at the helm or any other place in the boat while driving or while the engine is running. The xFOB must be attached to your body at all times to ensure that the engine will stop if you fall over board! Make sure to test the system before every use.
    NOTE: MOB+ will automatically time out after 10 hours to save power. You can extend your connection by pressing the button on the xHUB within 2 minutes when you hear the time out warning sound.

    Range

    After a successful connection, check your range for the first time. Make yourself familiar with the wireless range around your boat by starting the engine and walking away from the boat with your xFOB. The MOB+ system has a solid range of at least 15 feet (5 m) and up to 30 feet (10 m). You may experience an even longer range, as the wireless signal can vary depending on the environment around your boat.

    When going out of range or if the xFOB is submerged the system will enter MOB Mode (Man Overboard Mode) and stop the engine. The xHUB will give a sound signal and the light will flash red to indicate MOB Mode.

    NOTICE: Please note that the engine will stop within 1 second after the xFOB is submerged by 4 inches (10 cm) of water at any distance from the xHUB.
    NOTICE: A bucket or similar will not be adequate for testing the system. Always test the system in the ocean/lake.

    Disconnect

    To disconnect your xFOB, click the button once like shown below:

    Click the button on your xFOB to disconnect.
    The xHUB will give a sound signal and the light will flash red to indicate it is disconnected.
    You may disconnect your xFOB by clicking once on the xHUB or xFOB from
    Connected Mode, MOB Mode, Override Mode or Moor Mode.
    NOTICE: Remember to disconnect every time you leave the boat. Disconnecting while the engine is running will shut down the engine.

    MOB Mode

    (Man Over Board Mode)

    MOB Mode (Man Overboard Mode) is the safety mode and the basic purpose of the system. This is the mode that can save your and others lives in the event of a man overboard situation. MOB+ will automatically activate MOB Mode and shut down the engine when the xFOB is submersed in 4 inches (10 cm) of water or travels out of range from the xHUB. After 6 seconds of engine shut down procedure, the system automatically activates Override Mode. In Override Mode any passenger or crew onboard can restart the engine by putting the gearshift in neutral and starting the engine normally. This allows for a quick recovery of the missing person in the water and enhances safety.

    NOTICE: A bucket or similar will not be adequate for testing the system. Always test the system in the ocean/lake.

    MOB Mode overview

    1. The xFOB falls into the water or goes out of range.

     

    2. Engine shut down.

     

    3. 6 seconds engine shut down procedure is activated – Indicated by flashing red light and sounding an alarm.

     

    4. 6 seconds after engine shut down, Override Mode automatically engages – allowing passengers or crew on board to start the engine and pick up the missing person in the water.

     

    5. You can disconnect MOB Mode or Override Mode by clicking the button on the xFOB.

     

    6. Reconnect after MOB/Override Mode by first disconnecting, either by clicking on the xHUB or the xFOB button. Then click again on the xFOB to reconnect.

     

    NOTICE: The Override Mode engaged after MOB Mode will time out after 2 hours. This is to prevent the system from staying activated in the event that you leave the boat without disconnecting the xFOB first.

    Override Mode

    Override Mode enables you to start the engine and drive your boat in the event that you do not have your xFOB or your xFOB is out of battery. You can engage Override Mode and start your engine to drive without using the xFOB. The xHUB will flash a yellow light every 5 seconds and sound a signal every 30 seconds when in Override Mode. This is to remind you that you are not wirelessly connected with your xFOB and thereby not safe in the event that you would fall overboard.

    We encourage you to always use the xFOB when driving your boat. Make sure that the battery is not depleted in your xFOB before driving. Check the battery lights on your xHUB while the xFOB is connected to verify the battery status of your xFOB.

    Press and Hold the button of your xHUB for at least 10 seconds.
    First you will notice the blue light flashing and the sound signal as if you were entering Pairing Mode on your xHUB.
    Keep holding the button on your xHUB until a yellow light flashes and you hear a sound signal.
    When the yellow light flashes every 5 seconds and the sound signal repeats every 30 seconds, you have successfully engaged Override Mode.
    The Override Mode will time out after 8 hours to prevent the boat engine from being started if the Override Mode has been engaged unintentionally or the boat is left unobserved.

     

    NOTICE: In Override Mode, the engine will NOT stop if you fall over board! Only use Override Mode when it is necessary and drive your boat carefully. Limit your driving without the xFOB and recover or change battery in your xFOB to connect as soon as possible.

    Moor Mode

    In the event you as the driver need to exit the boat while mooring or performing other tasks you can engage Moor Mode. MOB+ will be in standby for 2 minutes, allowing you to go out of wireless range without the engine stopping.

    1. Start with being connected to the xHUB with your xFOB.

     

    2. Press & Hold the button on the xFOB for at least 3 seconds.

     

    3. The xHUB will flash a yellow light and sound a signal every 2 seconds. You are now in Moor Mode.

     

    4. The Moor Mode will time-out after 2 minutes.

     

    5. If you are within wireless range of your xHUB the system will automatically reconnect to the xFOB. If you are outside the range (normally 30 feet (10 m) or more)of your xHUB, the system will shut down the engine to prevent the engine from running unintentionally.

     

    6. Exit Moor Mode by clicking once on the xFOB while Moor Mode is active and your xFOB is within 30 feet (10 m) from your boat. This will disconnect the system.

     

    NOTICE: The Moor Mode assists you as the driver when in
    need to go out of range, but still need to have the engine running. This can be very helpful when operating a boat alone, and in the need to do cordage back and forth while mooring. In the event that you would fall overboard while in Moor Mode, the system will stop the engine after 2 minutes or if Moor Mode times out.

    Battery Indication

    The battery symbol on top of your xHUB displays the battery status of your connected xFOB. The four bars each respectively indicates 10 %, 40 %, 70 % and 100 % of battery life. The xFOB has a total battery life of 300 hours of connected time. We recommend changing the battery within 15 hours when only the last bar is blinking on the battery indicator. The time-out functions built into the WiMEA® Protocol helps to prolong the battery life of the xFOB, and prevents unnecessary battery usage in the event that the xFOB is forgotten onboard, while being connected.

    FELL Marine recommends using Panasonic or Sony CR2032 batteries.

    NOTICE: The battery life may vary depending on temperature. When temperatures are below -5˚ Celsius (23˚ Fahrenheit) the battery life may be shortened by up to 25 %. Please make sure to always check the battery status before driving your boat.

    xHUB Components

    Installing the xHUB

    1. Remove the xHUB Nut by turning it.

     

    2. Attach the External Antenna by turning it onto the antenna connector at the bottom of the xHUB.

     

    3. Drill a hole in your helm for the xHUB. Use standard 52 mm (2”-1/16″) hole cup drill to make the hole.

     

    NOTICE: Be sure not to drill through any existing cables or equipment mounted or situated on the backside of your intended xHUB position!

     

    4. Insert the xHUB Cable and External Antenna into the hole and then place the xHUB in the hole.

     

    5. Place the gasket between the flange under the top of the xHUB and the surface of the helm/wall surrounding the hole.

     

    6. When positioning the xHUB in the helm or other suitable place, make sure to set the direction of the xHUB with the battery indicator at 12 o’clock and the FELL printing at six o’clock.

     

    7. Tighten the xHUB Nut from behind to securely attach the xHUB in the helm. The xHUB Nut is fitted by applying normal hand force.

     

    8. Attach the xHUB with the Connection Cable by connecting the male and female 5-Pin Connectors together on the two.

     

    9. Proceed to connecting the wires, see next chapter “Connecting the wires”.

     

    NOTICE: The xHUB should be mounted in the helm or as near as possible to the driver position of the boat.
    FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR OTHER INJURY OR DAMAGE.
    NOTICE: We recommend that the installation of the MOB+ in your boat is performed by skilled personnel familiar with electric wiring, or by a professional mechanic or electrician. This is to prevent any malfunction of the device related to installation.
    NOTICE: You can choose to keep the original kill switch. If so, connect MOB+ in series if you have Open to stop principle or parallel to the existing kill switch if you have a Close to stop principle. Please note that you always have to use your existing kill switch when using this setup.
    TIP: It may be easier to connect the kill switch signal wires to the Connection Cable before mounting the xHUB completely in your helm, depending on your helm/boat. Connect the wires as described in section “Connecting the wires”. Then connect the xHUB with the Connection Cable by connecting the male and female 5-pin IP67 Connectors before doing final mounting of the xHUB. Connect the xHUB to the Connection Cable between bullet point 3 and 4 in chapter “Installing the xHUB”.
    WARNING: MOB+ will not stop the engine when falling on board your boat. You can stop the engine at any time by pressing the button on your xFOB or xHUB.

    Connecting the Wires

    TIP: Do not touch or cut any existing wires or electrically conducting components before you make sure the main voltage switch is OFF. Only set the main voltage switch to ON after you are finished cutting and connecting wires. Ensure all wires and conductive connection points are free from corrosion before connecting any wires.

    Connecting the Power (10 – 32Vdc)

    1. Use a test light or a voltmeter to determine the polarity of the voltage source.

     

    2. Connect the red (+ or positive) wire to the positive voltage terminal. (If you use the fuse block on the boat, route the positive connection through the fuse, as shown on the diagram.)

     

    3. Connect the black (- or ground) wire to the negative voltage terminal.

     

    4. Install or check the 1 A – 3 A fuse (in the in-line fuse holder, or on the fuse block of the boat.

     

    5. Use wire hoods suitable for the wire dimension (20AWG, 0.75mm2) or connection point on the fuse block.

     

    WARNING: Connect the leads to a stable power source that is not susceptible to voltage drops.

     

    NOTICE: Use an AGC / 3AG – 1 Amp – 3 Amp replacement fuse. If it is necessary to extend the power and ground wires, use 20 AWG or thicker wire. You can wire the Power Wires directly to the main boat battery, or if your boat has an electrical system, you might be able to wire the Power Wires to an unused holder on the fuse block.
    If your boat has an NMEA or NMEA2000 system installed you can use this system as a power supply for the MOB+ xHUB, if enough power is available. Please make sure to check a relevant source for information on power availability in your NMEA system. NMEA website: www.nmea.org
    WARNING: The maximum MOB+ xHUB input voltage is 32 Vdc. Do not exceed this voltage because this can damage the MOB+ xHUB and will void the warranty.

    Connecting the MOB+ Signal wires

    warningsign Before connecting the xHUB Signal wires, you must test which kill switch principle is used by your engine manufacturer.

    The engine signal wires on MOB+ xHUB consists of three wires. Only two of the three wires are used to connect to the existing kill switch wires in your boat. Below are instructions on how to test which of the xHUB signal wires to use and how to connect them to the existing wires in your boat.

    Overview of the xHUB signal wires:

    1. Common – Grey – Always used when connecting the MOB+ xHUB Signal wires.

     

    2. Open to stop (OS) – Blue – Used when your existing system is a Open to stop kill switch system.

     

    3. Close to stop (CS) – Orange – Used when your existing system is a Close to stop kill switch system.

     

    NOTICE: The engine kill switch system principle varies across different engine manufacturers, and different year of model, being Open to stop or Close to stop principle. Some existing kill switches has three wires, you still only need to connect two as described in this manual. The principle in the existing mechanical kill switch is the same as the xHUB Signal wires, where the three wires makes the existing kill switch compatible with both Open to stop and Close to stop kill switch systems.

     

    NOTICE: Visit www.fellmarine.com for wire diagram for specific engine brands.

    The existing kill switch system in your engine is either:
    1. Open to stop (OS) – meaning that the kill switch opens and disconnects the conductive latch to stop the engine.
    2. Close to stop (CS) – meaning that the kill switch closes and connects the conductive latch to stop the engine.

    The existing kill switch system has two wires, which are connected to the mechanical kill switch (the switch to attach the standard red cord), mounted in your helm, in the throttle quadrant, on your engine or other suitable place near the driving position. To connect the xHUB Signal wires you must first cut and strip the existing kill switch wiring as shown on the picture below:

    After stripping the two existing wires, proceed to test the kill switch principle, as described below. See page 28, Wiring diagram for overview of the wire connections.

    NOTICE: The grey wire on the Connection Cable is the CMN (common wire) and is used to connect to one of the existing engine kill switch signal wires, regardless of the existing kill switch principle.

    Testing the kill switch principle

     

    (Open to Stop / Close to Stop)

    Testing with multimeter
    You can test the kill switch principle by connecting a multimeter to both cables from the existing mechanical kill switch. Make sure the multimeter is set to measure resistance and that the cord is not attached to the mechanical kill switch.
    Infinite resistance measured:
    You have a Open to stop (OS) Kill Switch – Use Blue wire and Grey wire on the xHUB to connect to the two existing kill switch wires from your engine. See wiring diagram for Open to stop.
    Close to 0 (zero) resistance:
    You have a Close to stop (CS) Kill Switch – Use Orange wire and Grey wire on the xHUB to connect to the two existing kill switch wires in your boat. See wiring diagram for Close to stop.

    Testing with the existing wires

    1. Make sure the existing kill switch wires are not in contact after you have cut and stripped the two wires.

     

    2. Make sure your throttle or gear handle is in neutral position. You are going to start the engine to check which principle is used by your engine manufacturer.

     

    3. Turn the engine ignition switch to ON as you would normally do when starting the engine.

     

    If you have a pull cord, be sure to check if you can stop the engine by pressing a STOP BUTTON on your engine. If you do not have a STOP BUTTON on your engine:

    In the event that the engine starts when the existing kill switch wires are not in conductive contact, and you have pulled the pull cord to perform normal engine start, you can stop the engine by reconnecting the wires. Simply by leading them together on the stripped end of both wires, where the cable metal is conductive.
    WARNING – PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK: Be sure not to touch the conducting surface on the wires as these may conduct electricity!

     

    4. Be sure to perform normal starting procedure when testing, as described above in point 3.

     

    5. Yielded result:

    • No engine start: You have a Open to stop (OS) Kill Switch – Use blue wire and grey wire on the xHUB to connect to the two existing kill switch wires in your boat. See wiring diagram for Open to stop.
    • Engine start: You have a Close to stop (OS) Kill Switch – Use orange wire and grey wire on the xHUB Cable to connect to the two existing kill switch wires in your boat. See wiring diagram for Close to stop.

    Multiple engine configuration

    If you have more than one engine on your boat and your boat is already fitted with a kill switch you can connect the wires as described above to the two existing signal wires leading to the existing mechanical switch in your helm or throttle. You may notice that the existing wires consists of a splitter component (diode kit)on the wires. This splitter must not be removed, as this splitter translates the signal from the single mechanical kill switch into a kill switch signal for multiple engines. You should connect the MOB+ xHUB wires after this splitter, i.e. on the last two wires leading into the existing mechanicatl switch installed in your helm.

    NOTICE: If you have multiple engines and do not have an existing kill switch, wires and a splitter must be bought from your engine manufacturer or local retailer. Please contact your local engine retailer or manufacturer.

    Installing MOB+ in a metal boat

    If your helm is made out of conducting materials the wireless signals from MOB+ may be degraded. The amount of signal degradation experienced may vary from across boats and must be tested for each case. If the signal is very poor you can install a separate external antenna outside of your helm to increase the signal strength.     EMC Installation Guidelines

    (Electromagnetic Compatibility)

    FELL Marine equipment and accessories are designed to the best industry standards for use in the recreational marine environment. Their design and manufacture conforms to the appropriate Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) regulations, but correct installation is required to ensure that performance is not compromised.

    The guidelines given here describe the conditions for optimum EMC performance, but it is recognized that it may not be possible to meet all of these conditions in all situations. To ensure the best possible conditions for EMC performance within the constraints imposed by any location, always ensure the maximum separation possible between different items of electrical equipment.

    For optimum EMC performance, it is recommended that wherever possible:

    FELL Marine equipment and the cables connected to it are:

    • At least 3 ft (1 m) from any equipment transmitting or cables carrying radio signals e.g. VHF radios, cables and antennas. In the case of SSB radios, the distance should be increased to 7 ft (2 m).
    • More than 7 ft (2 m) from the path of a radar beam. A radar beam can normally be assumed to spread 20 degrees above and below the radiating element.
    • If possible the product is supplied from a separate battery from that used for engine start. Power supply voltages below the minimum specified for a product, and starter motor transients, can cause the product to reset. This will not damage the product, but may cause the loss of some information and may change the operating mode.
    • FELL Marine specified cables are used. Cutting and rejoining these cables can compromise EMC performance and must be avoided unless doing so is detailed in the installation manual.

    Important information and caution

    Read all instructions carefully before use of this product.

    FELL Marine equipment and accessories are designed to the best industry standards for use in the recreational marine environment. Their design and manufacture conforms to the appropriate Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) regulations, but correct installation is required to ensure that performance is not compromised. Please see section EMC Installation Guidelines in the User Manual for optimum EMC conditions.

    Within the wireless range MOB+ will not shut down the engine automatically e.g. if you fall in your boat within the wireless range the engine will not stop automatically. In this event, you can shut down the engine by pressing the button on your MOB+ xFOB or on the MOB+ xHUB. Always check your wireless range before use.

    Make sure that the system is working properly before leaving the dock. Refer to the section Using MOB+ in the User Manual for instructions on how to use the system and information about normal system operations.

    Always make sure to check the battery level sign on the xHUB before driving the boat. Confer with section Battery Indication in the User Manual to check how many hours there are left of battery life on the xFOB.

    Never attempt fast speed or dangerous maneuvers of the boat, especially if battery level is low on the xFOB. Battery depletion of xFOB can cause sudden engine stop and result in loss of control or maneuverability of the boat.

    Never attempt any service of inside components in either the xHUB or the xFOB.

    Warranty

    This Warranty for the FELL MOB+ (the “Device”) is provided by FELL AS, Nedre Storgate 46, 3015 Drammen, Norway. The provider of this warranty is sometimes referred to herein as “we”. We warrant the Device against defects in materials and workmanship under ordinary consumer use for one year from the date of original retail purchase.     Troubleshooting

    Here you can find a list of the most common solutions related to MOB+. If none of the answers below solves your problem, contact FELL Support

    Read installation guide for boats without existing kill switch. If this does not sui your needs or is applicable, contact your local retailer or FELL Support for more information.

    Install a suitable power source (10 – 32Vdc). We recommend that this is done by skilled or professional personnel only.

    Extend the wires using at least 20 AWG (0.75mm2) wire gauge and waterproof butt splices in the correct size.

    This is normal behavior as the advanced WiMEA® Protocol automatically detects when you are too far out of range or has fallen into the water, and disconnects

    -Pair your xFOB with your xHUB

    -Cannot pair successfully: change the battery in your xFOB

    -Cannot connect/pair: switch OFF the main power source to the xHUB, wait 10 seconds before switching it on.

    -Try to connect/pair again.

    -Connection/pairing still not working: contact FELL support.

    -Make sure the correct wires were chosen when the xHUB was installed. Please see the section Installing FELL Marine MOB+ for instructions on how to properly install your MOB+ System.

    -Try to pair/connect another xFOB if available

    -Contact FELL support

    This problem could indicate an issue with the power supplied to the device.
    Check these points to attempt to troubleshoot the cause of the power issue:

    -Make sure the power source is generating power. For example, you can check whether other devices powered by the source are functioning

    -Check the fuse on the power cable. The fuse should be located where the system is connected to power. You can test the fuse by connecting a multimeter to both ends and if the fuse is good the multimeter will read 0 ohms.

    -Check to make sure the device is receiving at least 10 volts

    -Check that all wires to the xHUB is connected properly and has not corroded, if in need contact your local boat workshop.

    -If the device is receiving enough power but does not turn on and all the other points in this troubleshooter is tried, contact FELL Support.

    -Check the battery status of your xFOB

    -Make sure to be within 5 meter range from the xHUB

    -Make sure the xHUB reacts normally to connection, disconnection and MOOR Mode when the two above are checked. If not, contact FELL Support.

    -Check if you are in vicinity of a high-energy transmitting device, and disclose this when contacting FELL Support

    -Make sure you/others did not click the xHUB whilst driving/running the engine.

    -Check that the power source to the xHUB is stable (12-24Vdc), if in need contact your local boat workshop.

    -Check that the xHUB operates normally after this incident, if not contact FELL Support.

    -Make sure you are within 5 meter from the xHUB

    -Make sure you are clicking the correct (the connected) xFOB

    -Check that the battery cover was properly closed

    -Stop using the xFOB

    Contact FELL Support or use another xFOB

    MOB+ is designed to give freedom to experience boating to the fullest. The system should have a robust connection within 5 meters and even more on most boats. Should you however experience shorter range than 5 meter you should check the following points:

    1. Make sure your MOB+ system is installed according to the instructions in the section Installing FELL Marine MOB+.

    2. Ensure that your xFOB has a functioning, well-powered battery inside. Check the battery status lights on your MOB+ xHUB and replace the battery if needed.

Use and Functionality Questions

Yes. The new MOB+ Wireless Man OverBoard system allows for up to 4 connections at the same time. Choose to connect an AlarmFOB with alarm only, or stop and alarm functionality. This unique feature enabled with the revolutionary WiMEA Protocol allows you to have any combination of alarm or stop functionality for your passengers, crew or pets onboard. Easily switch pilots while driving, secure any kids or pets onboard with either an alarm or have the engine stop if they fall overboard.

THe MOB+ system will not shut off the engine if the xFOB is only exposed to rain, splashes or a bucket of water. The range in air will vary depending on the wireless surroundings of your boat from at least 50 feet, but if you fall into the water as in the ocean or a lake, the MOB+ system will detect a man over board situation and kill the engine in 1 second. In this case the range in air does not matter and even 3 feet between the xHUB in your boat and your wearable xFOB will kill the eninge when the xFOB enters the water.

WiMEA® Protocol is based on an active data transfer between the connected xFOB unit and xHUB boat Unit. This means that no matter what happens, if the xFOB unit is in the water or far enough away from the xHUB boat unit (normally more than 50 feet/15 meters) the wireless signal will be broken and the xHUB boat unit will activate MOB mode which stops the engine(s).

Yes, on the MOB+ you can override the system in two ways. The xHUB installed in the boat has a button. If you press & hold this button for 13 seconds it will enter Override Mode. In Override Mode you can drive the boat without the need to connect the xFOB. The xHUB will sound a bip every 30 second and blink yellow every 2 seconds to remind you that you are not wirelessly connected. The Override Mode will shut down after 2 hours. After 2 hours you need to press & hold for 13 more seconds to re-enter Override Mode. In the unlikely event that there is a failure to the xHUB you can physically override the unit. The cable leading to the xHUB comes with an emergency plug, this plug can be inserted into the IP68 connector on the cable wires (kill switch wires) leading to the engine(s). This will physically jump the the kill switch wires to bypass the kill switch allowing the engines to start and run.

No. WiMEA® Protocol is a unique wireless protocol, comparable with Bluetooth 2,4 GHz protocol or the WiFi protocol in wireless routers in your home. WiMEA® Protocol complies with strict requirements for separation of wireless signals. This is tested and certified to comply with the R&TTE directive for this kind of product at Nemko in Norway as required by CE and IEC60945 certification in the EU, and by FCC in US and Canada. In the unlikely event that you experience interference on other systems we suggest you consult the respective systems producer to be sure it complies with the R&TTE directive and has the necessary certifications. Do not hesitate to contact FELL directly if you experience interference on other systems close to your MOB+ system. Please see the user manual for details regarding WiMEA® Protocol.

WiMEA® Protocol is a highly advanced wireless technology that uses unique ID codes which are unique in each microcontroller in the units. There are not two identical ID’s anywhere in the world. The xFOB unit will therefore only connect to a previously paired xHUB boat unit. Please see user manual for details regarding WiMEA® Protocol.

Yes, Suzuki motors use the kill switch to toggle ON/OFF with the mechanical switch to reset the codes (after service etc.). This is done in the same way with MOB+, by clicking on the xFOB ON/OFF in the same toggling pattern. Normally toggling ON/OFF on the xFOB 3 times within 10 seconds.

Yes. In a man over board situation MOB+ will automatically turn of the engine and then activate Override Mode after 6 seconds. When in Override Mode those still on board will be able to start the engine directly without any interaction with MOB+ boat unit. This gives additional safety as those on board do not need to know how to operate the system, but still can rescue the driver quickly. Please see user manual for details regarding WiMEA® Protocol.

At least 300 hours active connected hours. Smart power saving functionality turns the xFOB off when it´s not in use. The battery in the xFOB is standard coin cell battery, CR2032. Please refer to the User Manual for more information.

MOB+ has a guaranteed wireless connection of at least 5 meters/16.5 feet, but normally up to 15 meters/50 feet. Longer distances may occur depending on wireless conditions around your boat. Please see user manual for details regarding WiMEA® Protocol.

WiMEA® Protocol ensures engine stop within 1 second after the xFOB unit has fallen into the water or is out of range. In a MOB situation this normally results in a maximum stop time of 2 – 3 seconds depending of the length of the fall. Please see user manual for details regarding WiMEA® Protocol.

6 seconds. 6 seconds has been chosen to allow the engine pistons to come to a complete stop.

The wristband has an adjustable locking mechanism, allowing you to adjust the size from XS 5.3 in – XL 8.5 in wrist circumference.

Installation Questions

Yes. WMOB+ is installed using wires from your existing kill switch. Please see installation guide for instructions.

Yes, but it may be required to install wires from your engines stop system to MOB+. Please see installation guide and consult your local retailer or marina for more information.

Yes. MOB+ can be installed directly in most boats with multiple engines. If your boat comes prepared for/or you have an existing kill switch, MOB+ can be connected to existing wires. Some engine manufacturers offer harness to aggregate the kill switch wires from each engine into two wires, same as with single engine configuration. If you have a kill switch with multiple engine configuration, this harness is usually already installed and MOB+ can be directly connected to it.  Please see specific installation guide for your engine for more information.

MOB+ is designed to be installed on a console but you can install MOB+ xHUB (boat unit) close to the drivers position on a designated surface near the engine. Notice that it may be required to install wires from your MOB+ xHUB into the engine cover of your outboard engine. Note: This is not intended installation from FELL, but this kind of installation does not reduce wireless connectivity or function of the product. FELL Marine is currently working on a solution for future versions meant to be installed directly on outboard engines.

Yes, but if all sides of the drivers console is metal, this will form a wireless cage which reduces the wireless signal. Actual signal reduction if any will vary from boat to boat. Should the signal be noticeably worse the range for wireless connection between the xFOB and the xHUB will be reduced and the system can go into MOB mode which will cause unintentional engine stops. This distance will be shorter than 15 feet. We recommend in this case to use an extended cable for the antenna which can be set up outside of the driver console. For more information, contact FELL Marine Support.

The recommended way to mount the xHUB is closely positioned to the driver position with a good visibility of the lights showing the mode of operation. The lighting on the front of the xHUB also shows the battery status of the xFOB.

However it is also possible to install the xHUB hidden away behind a cover of glass fiber or wood. When installing the xHUB hidden, it is important to check the working range of the MOB+ after installation. Also make sure the unit is easily accessible to check the battery status of the xFOB and use the button on the xHUB.

Installation is easy. We recommend that the person installing the system is familiar with wire connections and has mounted marine electronics before. The xHUB is connected to power (+/-) with two wires and two additional wires to the existing kill switch wires. Since the system is only a relay on the existing kill switch wires it does not infringe with the engine systems in any way. The xHUb is mounted in the dashboard, near to the drivers position in a 2 1/16 inch hole. Bullet splices, butt splices and cable is included in MOB+ Basepack. Please see installation video and User Manual for more information.

Miscellaneous Questions

The casing on MOB+ is made from high quality materials and does not require maintenance except from cleaning.

Check that all wires and leading connection points are without any corrosion and that they fastened and properly connected.

We recommend to change the battery in your xFOB unit yearly.

Clean the exterior capsuling of the units with a moist cloth with a mild detergent. Avoid using chemicals that can damage plastic materials.

Marine Operation Warnings

You are responsible for the safe and prudent operation of your vessel. This device is a tool to enable you to enhance your safety while operating your vessel. It does not relieve you from the responsibility of safely operating your vessel. Avoid navigational hazards and never leave the helm unattended.
• Always drive the boat carefully and in accordance with local laws.
• Use this device only as a safety aid. This device does not replace the cord based kill switch, and should be used at your own discretion and responsibility, knowing that in the event that you fall in your vessel the system may not automatically shut down your engine.
• This device will shut down your engine and give an alarm signal when you are out of wireless range or falls into the water within 2 seconds. Within the wireless range this device will not shut down the engine automatically e.g. if you fall in your boat within the wireless range the engine will not stop automatically. In this event, you can shut down the engine by pressing the button on your MOB+ xFOB or on the MOB+ xHUB. Always check your wireless range before use. The wireless range may vary from 5 – 20 meters depending on the wireless environment surrounding your vessel.
• Make sure that the system is working properly before leaving the dock. Refer to the section Using MOB+ in the User Manual for instructions on how to use the system and information about normal system operations.
• Always make sure to check the battery level sign on the xHUB before operating your vessel. Confer with section Battery Indication in the User Manual to check how many hours there are left of battery life on the xFOB.
• Never attempt fast speed or dangerous maneuvers of the boat, especially if battery level is low on the xFOB. Battery depletion of xFOB can cause sudden engine stop and result in loss of control or maneuverability of the boat.
• Do not leave your xFOB in the boat unobserved, this to prevent easy theft of the boat if the ignition key is also situated in the vessel. Please refer to the engine manufacturer for information regarding ignition and starting procedure of the engine.

Other safety Considerations

Small parts contained in your device and its accessories may present a choking hazard to small children. Personal medical devices, such as pacemakers, may be sensitive to magnetic and electromagnetic fields. Since this device contain magnets and emit electromagnetic fields, they should be kept at least 30 cm from any personal medical device. If any interference is observed, consult with your physician before resuming use. Items with magnetically-stored data, such as credit cards and hard drives, may also be sensitive to magnetic or electromagnetic fields, and should not be placed near this device.

Limited Warranty

This FELL product is warranted to be free from defects in materials or workmanship for two years from the date of purchase. Within this period, FELL will, at its sole option, repair or replace any components that fail in normal use. Such repairs or replacements will be made at no charge to the customer for parts or labor, provided that the customer shall be responsible for any transportation cost. This warranty does not apply to: (i) cosmetic change, such as scratches, nicks and dents; (ii) consumable parts, such as batteries, unless product damage has occurred due to the defect in materials or workmanship; (iii) damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, water, flood, fire, or other acts of nature or external causes; (iv) damage caused by service performed by anyone who is not an authorized service provider of FELL, or (v) damage to a product that has been modified or altered without the written permission of FELL, or (vi) damage to a product that has been connected to power and/or data cables that are not supplied by FELL. In addition, FELL reserves the right to refuse warranty claims against products or services that are obtained and/or used in contravention of the laws of any country. Repairs have 180 day warranty. If the unit sent in is still under its original warranty, then the new warranty is 180 days or to the end of the original two year warranty, depending on which is longer. CE SAR Compliance

This device meets the EU requirements (1999/519/EC) on the limitation of exposure of the general public to electromagnetic fields by way of health protection. The limits are part of extensive recommendations for the protection of the general public. These recommendations have been developed and checked by independent scientific organizations through regular and thorough evaluations of scientific studies. The unit of measurement for the European Council’s recommended limit for mobile devices is the “Specific Absorption Rate” (SAR), and the SAR limit is 2.0 W/ kg averaged over 10 gram of tissue. It meets the requirements of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).

FCC Compliance

This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Note: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna, Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver, Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected, Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help. WiMEA Boat Unit: This device complies with FCC RF radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment. The antenna used for this transmitter must be installed to provide a separation distance of at least 20 cm from all persons and must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter. WiMEA MOB Unit: This device is exempted from FCC SAR testing since the RF Output Power is below the exemption limit.

Wireless Safety and Compliance

Turn your wireless connection off in areas where wireless use is forbidden or when it may cause interference or danger. Some specific situations are described below. In general, you should not use your FELL devices with your wireless connection turned on any place you are not allowed to use a cellular device. To prevent possible interference with aircraft systems, aviation agencies require you to have permission from a crewmember to use your device’s wireless service. We do not recommend to use FELL devices when flying.

Recycling

In some areas, the disposal of certain electronic devices is regulated. Make sure you dispose of or recycle all FELL devices in accordance with your local laws and regulations.

Other Electronic Devices

FELL devices generates, uses, and radiate radio frequency (RF) energy and, if not used in accordance with its instructions, may cause interference to radio communications and electronic equipment, i.e. if hardware or software is being tampered with or the device has become broken. FELL devices are designed and manufactured to only communicate with FELL devices. External RF signals may affect improperly installed or inadequately shielded electronic operating systems, entertainment systems, and personal medical devices. While most modern electronic equipment is shielded from external RF signals, if in doubt, check with the manufacturer or contact FELL for support. For personal medical devices (such as pacemakers and hearing aids), consult with your physician or the manufacturer to determine if they are adequately shielded from external RF signals, showing this user guide to the respective physician or manufacturer. In the unlikely event that you experience interference with other electronic devices, please contact customer support on: www.fellmarine.com/support or contact the manufacturer of the respective electronic device. There are some places where RF signals could constitute a hazard, such as health care facilities, and construction sites. If you are not sure, look around for signs indicating that two- way radios or cell phones should be turned off.
